Councilman Lincoln Restler Hopeful Water Shutdown Issue to be Remedied by Thursday Afternoon

Councilman Lincoln Restler told W-365 that he strongly advocated for the water shutdown on Lee Avenue not to occur during Purim, but despite his repeated requests, the neighborhood experienced a shutdown on Wednesday, Shushan Purim.

The NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC) says the blizzard last week pushed them back by a few days, and the repairs are necessary and urgent.

Councilman Restler says he hopes the work will be completed by Thursday afternoon and was adamant that there be no closures on Friday, as families across the area prepare for Shabbos, a message he relayed to the DDC and the NYC Mayor’s administration.

As previously reported, the temporary interruption is necessary to allow crews to install new 8-inch and 20-inch water mains as part of ongoing infrastructure upgrades, according to the DDC.

Restler said he’s working with the UJO and other community leaders and organizations to limit the inconveniences as much as possible, and that all future work should take into account the holidays celebrated in the community.
