City Council Speaker Visits UJO’s Upcoming Social Services Center
New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin visited the site of UJO’s future social services offices at 498 Bedford Avenue, accompanied by Council Member Jennifer Gutiérrez, for a closer look at the organization’s work and the services it provides to local families.
The visit highlighted UJO’s ongoing efforts to meet the needs of the community, from family support services to early childhood education.
UJO representatives—including its CEO, Rabbi Moshe Duvid Niederman— expressed their appreciation for Speaker Menin’s continued commitment to combating antisemitism and supporting programs that assist families throughout the city.
Council member Gutiérrez, who chairs the City Council’s Committee on Early Childhood Education, and Speaker Menin were recognized for their advocacy on behalf of child care programs and vouchers. Their visit came amid the announcement of more than 10,000 additional child care vouchers, a development expected to offer meaningful assistance to families in our community seeking affordable care.
UJO also acknowledged the support of Council Members Lincoln Restler and Chi Ossé, whose backing of the organization’s community services was recognized during the presentation.
The visit took place in the raw space which will house the sprawling offices of the UJO in the coming months, ushering in a new era for advocacy and community services in Williamsburg’s Jewish community.
