Camera Fines Start This Week on B60 Bus Route
By Y.M. Lowy
Drivers along the B60 bus route, which runs through Williamsburg, should be aware that automated camera enforcement fines begin this Friday, February 6.
The MTA says cameras mounted on buses will now issue tickets to vehicles that block bus lanes, drive in busways, stand in bus stops, or double park along enforced routes. The B60 is one of three new lines being added, along with the B68 and the M57.
Fines start at $50 for a first violation and can rise to $250 for repeat offenses.
The camera system is designed to keep bus lanes clear and prevent delays caused by blocked stops and illegally parked vehicles. Cameras record video and images of violations, which are then reviewed and processed by city agencies before tickets are issued.
According to the MTA, routes that already use camera enforcement have seen faster bus speeds and fewer blocked stops. Officials say the goal is more reliable service for riders and less congestion caused by lane blocking.
Signs are posted along enforced corridors to alert drivers that bus-mounted cameras are in use.
