Businesses Worried Over Planned G Train Weekend Closures

By Y.M. Lowy

Business owners are speaking out over planned G train shutdowns, saying weekend service suspensions could seriously affect local stores, restaurants, and cafes during busy times.

Williamsburg365 previously reported on the upcoming G train delays and closures tied to ongoing MTA repair work.

Now, dozens of Brooklyn business owners are asking the MTA to move the shutdowns to overnight weekday hours instead of weekends, especially during June and December when neighborhoods usually see heavy crowds and increased business activity.

The MTA says the work is needed for repairs, signal upgrades, and other improvements along the G line. Shuttle buses are expected to run during the closures, though many business owners say buses are not the same as regular subway service and could still keep customers away.

Several weekend shutdowns are expected throughout the year as work continues on the line.
