Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso and Councilman Lincoln Restler Bring Special Pre-Passover Street Cleaning to Williamsburg

By Williamsburg 365 Staff

Williamsburg residents were pleasantly surprised this week to see street-cleaning crews out in force along some of the neighborhood's busiest commercial corridors just as Passover preparations were intensifying. The special cleanup was made possible through an initiative led by Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso and Councilman Lincoln Restler, who, for the third consecutive year, secured special funding to bring ACE, a nonprofit organization that provides street cleaning services, crews into the neighborhood ahead of the holiday.

In Williamsburg, this pre-holiday effort was the result of Borough President Reynoso and Councilman Restler's special emphasis to join the community's Passover cleaning. Beginning this Sunday, ACE workers were deployed to clean key Williamsburg corridors, including:

- Bedford Avenue from Myrtle to Flushing Avenue

- Wallabout Street from Bedford to Lee Avenue

- Lee Avenue from Division to Flushing Avenue

- The triangles at Bedford Avenue, Williamsburg Street West, and Williamsburg Street East

The crews continued their work through today, Tuesday, with an additional cleaning scheduled for Erev Pesach, Wednesday afternoon, April 1, after the Sreifas Chametz. At one of the busiest times of year for local residents, the sight of crews cleaning heavily trafficked streets came as a welcome surprise and an appreciated boost for the neighborhood. For many residents, the cleaner streets were a visible reminder that when local elected officials make a neighborhood's needs a priority, it shows.

"We're grateful to Borough President Reynoso and Councilman Restler for being the first to come up with this idea to engage ACE in cleaning Williamsburg streets for Passover and continuing it annually. This helps usher in a clean and kosher Passover. Reynoso and Restler always think about what else they can do for the community," said Rabbi Moshe David Niederman, President of the UJO of Williamsburg and North Brooklyn.
