Battle Continues: Court Halts Bedford Avenue Bike Lane Removal

By Y.M. Lowy

The battle over the Bedford Avenue bike lane has taken another turn. A Brooklyn judge has temporarily blocked the City from rerouting a protected stretch of the lane, canceling out Mayor Eric Adams’ efforts to protect pedestrians.

On Wednesday, the Brooklyn Supreme Court issued an order stopping any work until a full hearing is held in August. The ruling came in response to a lawsuit filed by Council member Licon Restler, accusing the mayor of overstepping by ordering the lane restored to its previous layout.

For now, the Mayor’s removal plan is on hold.
