Additional 250 National Guard To Be Deployed In Subway System

Governor Hochul announced that 250 National Guard members will be deployed throughout the NYC subway system as part of a continued safety effort. 

These deployments are in addition to the 750 National Guard members who have been deployed since March to assist local law enforcement after a spike in violent crimes on the subway system. 

Hochul claims that the additional 250 members are not in response to a specific crime or recent trend, but rather to have more support to deter criminals on the subways and to provide a better sense of security to subway riders.

“It’s about continuing a strategy that has proven its success and expanding it to protect even more people,” Hochul said.
