Accident Under BQE Highlights Dangers of Homeless Encampments

A pedestrian was struck today at the intersection of Park Avenue and Grand Avenue, directly beneath the BQE, a location where many homeless individuals find refuge.
Emergency responders from the FDNY and EMS were quick to arrive at the scene, providing critical care to the injured pedestrian. The area under the BQE, where the accident occurred, is dimly lit and often crowded many homeless individuals who have made this stretch of road their temporary home.
The incident has brought renewed attention to the safety hazards faced by those living in makeshift encampments under the busy highway, as well as growing frustrations within the community.
