79th Precinct Introduces Sixteen New Officers to the Community

By Y.M. Lowy

The 79th Precinct recently welcomed 16 new officers who are beginning their first assignments on the streets. Before officially starting, the officers were introduced to the local community and its values, part of understanding the neighborhoods they will serve.

Askin R’ Yidel Lichtenstein, community liaison to the 79th Precinct for more than 50 years, met with the new officers together with the Shomrim coordinators and shared insight drawn from decades of experience. He spoke about the sensitivities of the Jewish community, including Shabbos and Yomim Tovim and how the community has such good communication with the police through volunteer groups such as Shomrim, Hatzolah, and Chaveirim.

He also encouraged the officers as they begin their careers, wishing them success and safety in their service to the community.
