3-Alarm Fire in Williamsburg Sends Firefighters Racing to Clinton Street
By Y.M. Lowy
On Motzai Shabbos, Williamsburg neighbors watched as firefighters responded to a large 3-alarm fire at 464 Clinton Street, right near the heimish neighborhood. About 45 units and more than 200 FDNY firefighters rushed to the scene within minutes.
When crews arrived, flames were already burning in the walls between the third and fourth floors. The fire eventually spread up to the sixth floor, impacting roughly 24 apartments throughout the building. “Units were chasing fire in the walls, which spread from the top floor down to the first floor,” said Deputy Chief James Carney.
NYC Emergency Management was on site to assist, securing a nearby school and providing a warming bus for residents who had to leave their homes. Thankfully, everyone was safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported among civilians or firefighters.
