Wireless Emergency Alert Test at Noon Today!
By Y.M. Lowy
If your phone goes off at noon today, don’t worry, it’s just a test. New York City Emergency Management will be sending out a Wireless Emergency Alert to phones that have test alerts enabled.
The message will make clear that it’s not an actual emergency. The test is meant to confirm that devices can receive urgent alerts in case of a real crisis.
Check your settings before:
● iPhone: Go to Settings, select Notifications, scroll to Government Alerts, and turn on Wireless Test Alerts.
● Android: Go to Settings, select Safety and Emergency or Notifications, choose Wireless Emergency Alerts, then enable State and local tests.
