Want to Join Your Local Community Board? Now Is Your Chance
By Y.M. Lowy
If you want a say in what happens in your neighborhood, now’s your chance. Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso has opened applications for residents to join Brooklyn’s 18 community boards.
Community boards are made up of volunteers who live, work, or have a significant interest in the community. They weigh in on local issues ranging from housing developments and public transportation to liquor licenses, sanitation, city services and more. Brooklyn has 18 community boards, each with up to 50 members.
Anyone age 16 or older who lives, works, or has a significant interest in a community can apply. Board members attend monthly meetings from September through June and are required to serve on a committee and attend its meetings. The expected time commitment is approximately six to eight hours per month.
The application process includes submitting an online application explaining your background and interest in serving, followed by a brief virtual conversation with a member of the Borough President’s team.
Borough President Reynoso is encouraging residents from across Brooklyn to get involved and help ensure that community boards reflect the people and neighborhoods they serve.
Applications are open through February 8, 2027.
