Upcoming Closures on the Williamsburg Bridge
By Y.M. Lowy
Construction on the Williamsburg Bridge continues to impact traffic as part of NYCDOT’s ongoing rehabilitation project. New lane closures are scheduled from September 22 through September 29.
The Brooklyn-bound outer roadway will have one lane closed continuously from 5 AM on Monday (9/22) to 5 AM on Monday (9/29).
The Brooklyn-bound inner roadway will also be reduced to one lane from Monday (9/22) to Friday (9/26) between 10 AM and 3 PM. In addition, rolling lane closures will take place overnight on Tuesday (9/23) from 10 PM to 5 AM, with one lane closed at a time.
On the Manhattan-bound side, either the inner or outer roadway will be closed to one lane during the same weekday hours: Monday (9/22) to Friday (9/26) from 10 AM to 3 PM. Rolling lane closures are also scheduled overnight on Tuesday (9/23) from 10 PM to 5 AM, with one lane closed at a time.
At least one lane in each direction will remain open at all times to keep traffic moving. The bridge’s walkway and bikeway will continue to be narrowed at work zones for up to fifty feet, and both pedestrians and cyclists are urged to use caution when crossing.
