A 41-year-old man has been arrested by the NYPD with help of Shomrim after he assaulted three Jewish men in Williamsburg on Friday evening in what is being investigated as a hate crime.
The incident happened around 6:45 p.m. near Throop Avenue and Gerry Street. The suspect approached three men, ages 48, 38, and 21, who were walking in the area separately, and attacked them one after the other.
The assaults were unprovoked. The suspect allegedly punched one man in the back, struck another in the shoulder, and hit a third in the side of the head, while yelling antisemitic slurs during the attacks. All three victims reported pain but declined medical attention.
Video from the scene shows officers taking the suspect into custody shortly after the incident. He was seen wearing a black T-shirt displaying the Iranian flag.
The suspect was arraigned in Brooklyn Criminal Court later that day and is facing multiple charges, including assault as a hate crime. He was remanded, with bail set at $5,000 cash, and is scheduled to return to court on April 30.
