Scammers Take Advantage Of Congestion Toll

By Idy Perl

For scammers, the new congestion toll is just another opportunity to exploit innocent citizens.

Almost immediately after the congestion toll went into effect many drivers received phishing scams with fake notices from “NY Tolls Services” charging them with false fines.

The MTA has previously announced that there will be no fines or late fees during the first 60 days of the congestion toll, so all current notices are automatically suspicious. Drivers are urged to be wary of notices asking for immediate action to avoid fees or penalties, links to suspicious websites, and requests for personal information.

Suspicious emails can be reported to the Federal Trade Commission at [email protected], and drivers should contact E-ZPass New York directly at 800-333-8655 for assistance.
