Riding the Wave: NYC Ferry Breaks Ridership Record
By Y.M. Lowy
NYC Ferry has become a key part of New York City’s transportation system since its launch in 2017, and this summer marked a major milestone.
In August, the system carried more than one million riders in a single month for the first time, a 17 percent increase compared to last year.
Looking ahead, ridership is expected to rise even more this winter with new service adjustments. Some plans reported previously on BoroPark24 include expanding routes to Midtown and introducing a new line connecting Brooklyn and Staten Island.
Fares remain set at $4.50, with a ten-pack option lowering the price to $2.90 per trip—the same as a subway ride and less than an express bus. There are no plans to raise fares when the MTA increases prices in January.
