By Y.M. Lowy
The Satmar Kehillas gathered last night at the Waterfront Square and Crown Heights Armory for the yearly Kuf Aleph Kislev celebration, marking the Rebbe’s escape from wartime Europe and the beginning of the community’s remarkable rebuilding in America. In honor of the occasion, President Donald Trump sent a formal letter praising the Kehillas and reflecting on the day’s meaning.
In his message, the president wrote that 21 Kislev is not only a remembrance of the Rebbe’s escape during the Holocaust, but a tribute to the “triumphant faith” that allowed the Satmar community to grow and flourish across generations. He described the Satmar kehila as a community rooted in “faith, prayer, and conviction,” shaping the next generation with strength and purpose.
Trump also reaffirmed his commitment to protecting religious freedom “in classrooms and beyond,” calling it essential for all Americans to live their beliefs openly and without fear.
He closed the letter with a blessing to the community and to the country.
The president’s message added a note of recognition to the evening, as the community gathered to mark a day that continues to carry deep meaning for Satmar today.
