Power Outage Hits Williamsburg Area, Affecting Homes, Shuls, and Stores
By Williamsburg 365 Staff
A significant power outage has struck parts of Williamsburg, leaving around 100 homes without electricity in the area surrounding Rutledge Street, Whyte Avenue, Penn Street, and Heyward Street.
The outage is believed to be caused by manhole and electrical wires catching fire due to the extreme heatwave, with real-feel temperatures soaring past 100 degrees. Emergency crews have been responding throughout the area as fires and overheating infrastructure continue to pose safety risks.
The blackout has affected homes, shuls, stores, and halls, disrupting daily life as the community tries to manage the sweltering conditions without power.
As a result of the extreme heat and power issues, the Satmar Cheider on Whyte Avenue dismissed students early today as a precautionary measure.
Utility crews are working urgently to restore service and prevent further incidents.
Further updates will follow as the situation develops.
