Planned Water Shutdown in North Brooklyn Postponed to Avoid Erev Shabbos Disruptions

A scheduled water shutdown affecting parts of North Brooklyn has been officially postponed, following concerns about disruptions on Friday. The shutdown, originally planned for Friday, February 13, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., was to impact areas including Lee Avenue, Wallabout Street, Walton Street, Flushing Avenue, Lorimer Street, Bedford Avenue, and Marcy Avenue.

According to a joint update shared by UJO, the NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC) agreed to delay the work at the request of local leaders to prevent interference with Friday daytime preparations at nearby homes and community institutions. The project is part of the city’s Safe Routes to Schools initiative and involves installing new 8-inch and 20-inch water mains, which requires a temporary interruption of water service.

City officials emphasized that the postponement reflects responsiveness to neighborhood needs. A new date and time for the water shutdown will be announced once confirmed. Residents will receive advance notice before any future service interruption.
