NYPD 79th Precinct Warns Residents Amid Uptick in Auto Thefts
By Williamsburg 365 Staff
The NYPD’s 79th Precinct is warning residents to remain alert following an uptick in vehicle thefts, noting that thieves often target vehicles left unattended even for a short time.
Officials are urging drivers to take simple precautions to protect their vehicles, including turning off the ignition and removing keys, locking all doors and closing windows, activating vehicle alarms, parking in well-lit or high-traffic areas when possible, avoiding leaving valuables inside cars, and considering the use of a steering wheel lock to help deter theft.
