NYPD 79th Precinct Recovers Two Illegal Firearms in Separate Incidents
Officers from the NYPD’s 79th Precinct recovered two illegal firearms in separate incidents within a single day, removing dangerous weapons from the streets of the Williamsburg area, according to police.
The first recovery occurred on Thursday during the early morning hours, when a midnight platoon officer and his partner conducted a routine traffic stop at Bedford Avenue and Willoughby Avenue. Police say the vehicle was stopped for not displaying a front license plate.
During the stop, officers determined the driver did not possess a valid driver’s license. Further investigation led to the discovery of a loaded illegal ghost gun inside the vehicle. No injuries were reported. The weapon was recovered and taken off the street.
Later on Thursday, officers from the precinct’s Field Intelligence Unit recovered a second illegal firearm while executing a search warrant at a separate location. Police say the search resulted in the seizure of a handgun along with accompanying ammunition.
