NYC Sanitation Commissioner Jessica Tisch Appointed As Commissioner Of The NYPD

By Idy Perl
Mayor Eric Adams has chosen the new NYPD Commissioner, and it’s the second woman to ever hold that title in the NYPD’s 179-year history.
Jessica Tisch, current commissioner of the NYC Department of Sanitation since 2022 and a 12-year veteran of the NYPD, will be leading the nation’s largest police force as NYPD Commissioner effective next Monday, November 25.
Tisch is well known throughout NYC for her accomplishments at the DSNY, including the execution of Adams “Trash Revolution,” which has containerized 70% of NYC’s trash. She will now be cleaning NYC’s streets from crime, and pledges to make NYC safer.
“For 12 years, I cherished the special privilege of serving alongside the brave women and men of the New York City Police Department,” Tisch said. “I’ve seen firsthand the profound nobility of the policing profession, and I was proud to work shoulder-to-shoulder with both uniform members and civilians to propel the NYPD into the next century of technological advancement. I thank Mayor Adams for the tremendous honor to now lead the NYPD, and I understand the solemnity of this great responsibility. “
This new appointment follows recent shifts in the Adams administration, including the resignation of Commissioner Edward Caban. In the wake of this, Thomas G. Donlon was sworn in as Interim Police Commissioner.
