NYC Hits 80° in Earliest Warm Day on Record Yesterday

By Y.M. Lowy

New York City got an early taste of summer yesterday as temperatures reached 80 degrees, making it the earliest 80-degree day ever recorded.

The reading was taken at Central Park, where the city’s official weather records are kept. The previous earliest 80-degree day was March 13, 1990, meaning this year’s record came three days earlier than ever before.

The temperature also broke the daily record for March 10, which had been 79 degrees set in 2016.

The unusual warmth won’t last long, though. Forecasters say a cold front will move through the area later today, bringing showers and possibly thunderstorms before cooler temperatures return.
