NYC DOT Launched Second Major Pothole Blitz Following Harsh Winter Conditions
The New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) carried out a second comprehensive pothole repair blitz across all five boroughs following a winter marked by record snowfall and prolonged cold weather.
Crews were deployed early Saturday morning, with approximately 80 teams working on city streets and highways. The effort followed a similar operation the previous weekend, during which more than 7,200 potholes were repaired in a single day—roughly equivalent to a full week’s workload.
Since the start of the year, NYC DOT has repaired over 66,000 potholes, including more than 20,000 in recent weeks. Officials say the increased activity is due to ongoing freeze-and-thaw conditions that contribute to road damage.
The agency noted that pothole repairs are part of a broader effort, with road resurfacing projects also underway. New Yorkers were advised to expect travel delays during the repairs and are encouraged to report potholes to 311.
