NYC DOT Begins Work on Marcy Avenue Bus Priority Project

NYC DOT Begins Work on Marcy Avenue Bus Priority Project

By Y.M. Lowy

The NYC Department of Transportation has begun installation of the Marcy Avenue Bus Priority Street Improvement Project along Marcy Avenue between Borinquen Place and Broadway.

The project will help improve bus travel along several high ridership routes, including the B24, B60, and Q54, which together serve tens of thousands of riders daily. Buses in this area often face delays caused by heavy traffic and difficult turns near Broadway.

The DOT’s goal of the project is to help buses move faster especially near the end of their routes where delays tend to build up and impact the next scheduled trips.

As part of the changes, portions of Marcy Avenue will be redone to support bus priority improvements. The project is also expected to involve adjustments to parking on certain blocks to improve traffic flow and reduce blockages caused by loading and double parking.

The project follows prior traffic studies that recommended adding bus priority measures to help improve service reliability in the area.

Installation is now underway and Williamsburg365 will continue with updates as work continues.
