NYC Dept of Transportation Updates Alternate Side Parking Rules in Williamsburg, Easing Burden for Residents

The New York City Department of Transportation has introduced updated Alternate Side Parking signs in Williamsburg, bringing significant relief to local residents and drivers. The changes, implemented along Myrtle Avenue and DeKalb Avenue, reduce the frequency of parking restrictions, addressing long-standing concerns from the community, including Jewish residents.

On Myrtle Avenue, between Nostrand Avenue and Classon Avenue, the previous ASP rules required drivers to move their vehicles five days a week, Monday through Friday, at 8:00 AM. Under the new regulations, ASP has been streamlined to four days per week—Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday—eliminating Wednesday. This adjustment provides Williamsburg residents with one less day of parking disruptions each week, simplifying street parking for the community.

On DeKalb Avenue, between Franklin Avenue and Skillman Street, prior regulations imposed strict No Parking rules every day, including Shabbos. This posed significant challenges for Jewish residents, who were unable to move their vehicles on Shabbos and often faced parking tickets as a result.

The updated ASP signage now limits restrictions to Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at 7:30 AM, with both Wednesday and Shabbos excluded. This change offers much-needed relief to the community, making parking more manageable and accommodating religious observances.
