New Year’s Day Closures in NYC

New Year’s Day Closures in NYC

On New Year’s Eve (December 31), subways will operate on a regular weekday schedule. On New Year’s Day, subway services will follow a Sunday schedule.

All buses across the five boroughs will follow a Sunday schedule on Jan. 1. Expect detours near Midtown due to street closures, and temporary daytime closures at MTA Bridges and Tunnels will end by 1 p.m. on Dec. 31.

Most banks will be closed on New Year’s Day, however, ATMs and mobile banking will remain available.

The USPS will not deliver mail on Jan. 1, while UPS and FedEx will have limited services on New Year’s Eve. On New Year’s Day, UPS will offer only Express Critical services, and FedEx will operate only its Custom Critical service.

Sanitation services will pause for the day. There will be no garbage, recycling, or compost collection on January 1. Residents with Wednesday collection should place items out Wednesday evening for Thursday pick-up.

Alternate Side Parking rules will be suspended on Jan. 1 but will resume on Jan. 2.
