New “Four-Finger” Emergency Signal for Hatzolah Gains Attention Ahead of Major Satmar Event

A newly introduced hand signal to call for emergency help at crowded events is gaining traction following a recent meeting of Satmar askanim.
At the gathering, Reb Isaac Daskal, from the main Satmar askanim, announced a coordinated initiative across kehillos: raising four fingers will serve as a universal signal to urgently alert Hatzolah in situations where noise, music, or large crowds make it difficult to communicate.
Daskal referenced the dramatic incident earlier this year during the 21 Kislev event at the Crown Heights Armory, when his father suddenly collapsed on the dais after suffering a heart attack. Despite the chaotic and crowded setting, with loud music blasting during the Rebbe’s entrance, Hatzolah responders were able to reach him quickly - largely due to visual signals from those nearby rather than radio communication, which was ineffective at the time. He was successfully treated, saving his life.
Organizers say the new system is designed to provide a clear, simple way to call for help in high-noise environments, especially at large gatherings.
The announcement comes just days before the anticipated Satmar Hachnasas Sefer Torah in Williamsburg on Lag BaOmer and America's biggest Lag Beomer fire gathering at the big Shul in Kiryas Yoel, both expected to draw thousands of attendees.
Daskal concluded with a tefillah that the signal should never need to be used, and that all events should pass safely and smoothly.
