Mayor Adams’ Plan for a Safe Summer in the City

Mayor Adams’ Plan for a Safe Summer in the City

By Y.M. Lowy

Summer has settled in across New York City and the beaches are now open. Mayor Eric Adams shared a few simple reminders to help keep things calm and safe for everyone in the city.

With the heat building, the city is encouraging people to stay cool and check in on neighbors. Cooling Centers and public spots with pools, sprinklers, and shady areas are marked on city maps and open to all.

Police officers will have a stronger presence in busy areas, especially in the evenings. The NYPD is keeping an eye out for unsafe driving and unregistered vehicles. Drones and patrol boats will lend support along the coast and help with beach rescues when needed.

Lifeguards are on duty at city beaches from 10 in the morning until 6 in the evening. Swimming is only allowed when they are present and in clearly open areas.

The Fire Department is asking New Yorkers to use care with propane grills and to skip rooftop flames altogether. Fireworks are off-limits and best left to the pros

A little care goes a long way to make summer in the city something to really enjoy.
