Mail Theft Suspects Crash BMW Into School Bus While Fleeing Police

Yisroel R.

A late-night police pursuit ended in a dramatic crash after a BMW carrying three suspects involved in a mail theft incident slammed into a school bus on Lee Avenue while attempting to flee officers.

The incident began when individuals were seen removing mail from a blue USPS mailbox outside Chestnut supermarket in Williamsburg. Witnesses alerted Shomrim, who followed the vehicle while notifying the NYPD.

The suspects reportedly drove around the neighborhood before heading toward the entrance of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. The BMW was blocked from entering the highway, prompting the driver to attempt to escape at high speed.

During the attempted escape, the BMW crashed into a school bus on Lee Avenue, with the impact causing the vehicle to slide partially underneath the bus and leaving the car severely damaged.

The three individuals then jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot. Police chased them toward Marcy Avenue, where two suspects were apprehended. The driver was able to jump over a fence onto the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway and managed to escape.

Investigators recovered a large amount of mail from inside the vehicle, including checks, credit card information, and other financial documents belonging to approximately ten people. Authorities said the recovered mail is being returned to its rightful owners.
