Drama Swirls Around Mayor Adams’ Campaign – Rumors Shot Down by Spokesperson
By Williamsburg 365 Staff
After weeks of speculation about whether Mayor Eric Adams would stay in the mayoral race or bow out, the political world was thrown into chaos late last night when a News12 reporter posted that two sources close to the Adams administration told her the mayor would be dropping out by the end of the week.
The post quickly went viral, fueling intense chatter across local media and social platforms. But just moments later, the same reporter issued an update, saying she had heard back from the Adams campaign, which strongly denied the report.
Todd Shapiro, spokesperson for Mayor Adams, issued a statement, calling the rumors “complete nonsense” and blaming them on political opponents.
“Let me be perfectly clear: any rumor or tweet suggesting Mayor Adams is stepping down this week is complete *******,” Shapiro said. “These lies are being spread by desperate opponents who can’t match the mayor’s record, his campaign energy, or his support across this city.
The truth is Mayor Adams has more than 20 events scheduled this weekend alone, including major rallies and community stops, plus dozens of fundraisers lined up. The campaign is alive, strong, and fully engaged — just like the mayor himself.
Eric Adams is in this race to win it, and no amount of fake chatter or political spin will change that.”
Despite the late-night drama, the Adams campaign appears to be moving full steam ahead, with plans for a busy weekend of events across the city - including a visit today to Boro Park.
Adding to the political shakeup, this drama unfolded on the very same day Governor Kathy Hochul officially endorsed Zohran Mamdani for mayor, calling him the perfect fit to fight back against the effect Donald Trump continues to have on New York City residents.
