By Yisroel R.

A 40-year-old cyclist is in critical condition after he was struck by an SUV Sunday night in Bedford-Stuyvesant. The crash happened shortly after 1 a.m. at the intersection of Lafayette and Bedford Avenues.

According to footage shared on Williamsburg-365, the cyclist was riding an e-bike and went through a red light. At the same time, a black SUV traveling north on Lafayette Avenue entered the intersection with a green light and continued through at full speed. The driver, a 27-year-old man, had almost no time to react before the impact.

The collision threw the cyclist several feet. Officers closed off the intersection for several hours to mark evidence and review surveillance footage from nearby buildings.

EMS transported the victim to Kings County Hospital, where he remains in critical condition and is fighting for his life.

Police say the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
