Coast Guard To Shut Down New York Harbor For July 4 Celebrations
Yisroel R.
The Coast Guard is taking extra precautions on the water this July 4, with New York Harbor set to close to all boats during parts of the holiday as the city prepares for large Independence Day celebrations.
The restrictions are being put in place for the country’s 250th anniversary celebrations and will also force the Staten Island Ferry to stop running during parts of the day.
NYC DOT said ferry service will be suspended from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and again from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. under Coast Guard orders.
The move is part of the major safety effort being planned around the July 4th celebration, where large crowds and increased activity are expected throughout the day and evening.
When the ferry is running, service is expected every 30 minutes, with additional service planned between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. for those heading to the fireworks.
City officials said the exact timing could still change depending on Coast Guard instructions. Riders are being advised to check for updates before traveling
