City Crews Fill Over 7,000 Potholes During Weekend Repair Blitz

New York City officials announced that more than 7,000 potholes were repaired across the five boroughs during a citywide repair blitz held over the weekend.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani and New York City Department of Transportation Commissioner Mike Flynn said the one-day effort on Saturday was launched following a harsh winter that brought heavy snowfall and long stretches of freezing temperatures, conditions that often damage road surfaces.

According to the city, DOT crews worked across neighborhoods throughout the day and repaired thousands of potholes, completing nearly a week’s worth of typical repair work in a single day.

City officials also said that since the beginning of the year, more than 50,000 potholes have been repaired across New York City, with crews generally responding to pothole complaints within about two days.

Additional pothole repair blitzes are expected later this spring as the city moves into its annual road resurfacing season. The Department of Transportation plans to repave roughly 1,150 miles of roadway this year across the five boroughs.

Potholes typically form in early spring when moisture from winter storms enters cracks in the pavement and repeated freezing and melting weakens the road surface. Officials are encouraging residents to report potholes through 311 so repair crews can address the damage quickly.
