Chaveirim of Williamsburg Braving the Deep Freeze to Keep Sidewalks Safe

YS GOLD

As a relentless deep freeze continues to grip Brooklyn this February, Chaveirim of Williamsburg has been operating at full throttle to combat the hazardous icing conditions plaguing the neighborhood's sidewalks.

With a bitter cold holding on over the last several days, local walkways have transformed into dangerous ice sheets, leading to a significant uptick in reported falls and injuries. Members have been actively assisting in shoveling and salting icy sidewalks and driveways to prevent further accidents while also utilizing specialized equipment to clear stubborn snow and ice buildup that poses a persistent risk to pedestrians.

Beyond the sidewalks, Chaveirim continues to rescue drivers stuck in snow or dealing with dead batteries due to the extreme cold, maintaining their reputation for being "on the watch" during the most treacherous winter storms. Community leaders are urging pedestrians to use extreme caution and are requesting that residents check the condition of sidewalks in front of their homes to assist in the collective safety effort.

This storm has inundated Chaverim of Williamsburg with a record breaking number of calls, more than at any time since its founding. They have responded to 1100 calls to date related to this snow storm alone, and have delivered electric heaters to many families in the Williamsburg community.
