BREAKING: Eric Adams Drops Out of NYC Mayoral Race
New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced he is suspending his campaign for re-election, citing mounting pressure and a crowded field that threatens to split the vote. The move comes as progressive candidate Zohran Mamdani leads the polls, with Adams trailing in fourth place behind Mamdani, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, and Republican Curtis Sliwa.
In a statement, Adams reflected on his accomplishments as mayor but said he could no longer continue his campaign. He did not endorse any other candidates but warned against electing leaders who “flip-flop on the issues” or push radical agendas.
Adams stressed that while his campaign is ending, his public service will continue. “I will keep fighting for our city no matter what because I am a New Yorker,” he said.
The decision follows weeks of speculation about whether Adams would step aside, with high-level political talks—including involvement from Trump officials—aimed at consolidating support behind a single challenger to Mamdani.
Although he has suspended his campaign, Adams’ name will remain on the November ballot, along with other independent candidates, including Jim Walden.
