BDE: Haga’on Rav Shmaya Greenbaum, zt”l
YS Gold
We regret to inform you of the petirah of Ha’gaon Rav Shmaya Greenbaum, a giant talmid chacham, author of sefarim, and a magnificent ba’al darshan. He was 77 years of age.
The niftar was one of the most prominent talmidim of the Rebbe Zy"u to whom he was exceptionally close, and he was one of the most esteemed talmidei chachamim within the Satmar kehillah.
He authored the commentary of Mishnayos known as “Siyatta Dishmaya” –which were accepted throughout the world— and he would deliver countless shiurim within the kehillah.
The Niftar was a prominent dayan in the Satmar Kehillah in Williamsburg, and he was also the dayan of the Satmar Lapidus bungalow colony.
In the last few years, Rav Shmaya struggled with the machlah, and he returned his neshamah to its maker on Shabbos Kodesh to the heartbreak of his illustrious family and Satmar chassidim the world over.
The levaya will take place in Williamsburg at the Satmar Bhm"d on Rodney Street at 10:20am, then near Monsey, in Lapidus, and in Kiryas Yoel, where he will be laid to rest.
Yehi zichro baruch.
