Another Month of Weekend G Train Disruptions Raises Concerns for Greenpoint Businesses
YSR.
Greenpoint business owners are preparing for another month of weekend G train disruptions, with many concerned the continued weekend service changes will once again hurt local businesses in the area.
Several business owners say previous weekend disruptions led to a noticeable decline in customers, making weekends especially difficult for restaurants, coffee shops, and other neighborhood businesses that rely on steady foot traffic.
City Council Member Lincoln Restler said the repeated weekend closures continue to place an unnecessary burden on local businesses, suggesting the MTA consider performing more of the work overnight instead of during weekends to lessen the impact on the neighborhood.
Many acknowledge that the G train improvements are necessary, but business owners and local officials say they hope future work can be scheduled in a way that reduces the impact on customers and the neighborhood’s small businesses.
