Announcement: Bedford Avenue to Close for Pedestrian Safety on Rosh Hashana Night
In a first-ever safety initiative, the NYPD 90th Precinct will be temporarily closing Bedford Avenue on the first night of Rosh Hashana.
Closure area: Bedford Avenue between Flushing Avenue and Division Avenue
Time: Approximately 9:00 PM – 11:00 PM
Every year, thousands of families fill the streets of Williamsburg after davening to visit rebbes and relatives with wishes of “Shana Tova.” The crowds, mixed with heavy vehicle traffic, have posed dangerous conditions in the past, with near accidents reported on multiple occasions.
This year, thanks to the Williamsburg Jewish Community Council (WJCC) in coordination with the NYPD 90th Precinct and Shomrim Shabbos Patrol, the avenue will be closed to ensure a safe and festive atmosphere for all.
“This step will allow families to walk freely and safely on Rosh Hashana night without the risk of vehicle-related accidents,” said Rabbi Moishe Indig of the WJCC, who helped lead the effort.
