The well-known Ropo Tires shop at 528 Park Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11205, was sold to the Rabsky Group. Ropo Tires has served the Williamsburg community from several different locations over the past 48 years.
The property was purchased in 2012 for just $2.3 million. Thirteen years later, it has sold for $35 million, more than 16 times its original purchase price.
The sellers are the two brothers, well-known askanim and baalei tzedakah v’chesed, R’ Shalom Rosenberg and Rabbi Mendy Rosenberg, the founder of Chesed Shel Emes.
Rabbi Mendy Rosenberg founded Chesed Shel Emes in 1985 as a small Chevra Kadisha to ensure that every Jewish person receives a dignified burial in accordance with Halacha, regardless of financial means, family situation, or affiliation. Over the years, the organization grew into one of the largest of its kind in the United States, with hundreds of volunteers.
Chesed Shel Emes helps prevent unnecessary autopsies, responds to emergencies and sudden deaths, assists grieving families with Levaya arrangements, helps families facing language or financial barriers, and covers burial and transportation costs when families cannot afford them.
The organization also has seven cemeteries
For many years, the Chesed Shel Emes headquarters was located at the Ropo Tires shop
The buyer is the Rabsky Group, led by R’ Yitzchok Rabinowitz. The group has transformed neighborhoods and skylines across New York City and the United States
Rabsky plans to build hundreds of homes on the site for the Chasidic community.
The property is part of the newly approved Park Avenue Brooklyn rezoning, which was approved by the City Council and allows for hundreds of new housing units.
