Adams Slams Media for ‘Undermining My Campaign': “Let the People Decide!”

Yesterday, during an announcement, Mayor Eric Adams forcefully pushed back against questions about recent polls showing Zohran Mamdani in the lead, saying it is far too early to call the race and accusing the press of trying to write him off prematurely.

"It's all about communication, we haven’t even done one mailing or TV ad yet. We just started knocking on doors. We’ve been here before. Andrew Yang was beating me by 14 points, but we don’t call the Mayor - Andrew Yang, we call the Mayor - Eric Adams," Adams said.

Calling the speculation "a beautiful robbery" of the democratic process, Adams urged patience. "This is part of the process. Let the process play out and let the voters decide. Whatever direction the voters decide, I’m going to support - but it’s too early. Races are won within three to four weeks."

Adams also expressed frustration with what he described as false reporting and rumors undermining his campaign.

"I’ve said that over and over again - if you aren't stopping reporting that I’m going to Saudi Arabia, going to the Yankees game with the President, going to Washington D.C., dropping out on Friday and dropping out on Tuesday - you’re undermining my campaign," he said. "I don’t think the voters want me out as much as you guys want me out. Let me do what I do. When my campaign changes, I’ll tell you it changed. But all these false reports and rumors is undermining my campaign. I haven’t seen anything like this in my life, where the press has planned such a major role in undermining a candidate who has been clear about what he’s doing."

When a reporter asked the Mayor to speak directly about updates with the papers, Adams shot back:

"You stated that you want to hear directly from me - I told the papers directly that I was not at Yankee Stadium with the President, they wrote anyway I was there. I told them I was never offered a job in Saudi Arabia,  they wrote anyway I was. I told them I was not going to Washington, they wrote anyway that I was. They asked me if I’m stepping down on Friday, I said no I am not, they wrote anyway I was," Adams said.

"So why am I saying it directly (to you), cause you are gona write and report anyway?" the mayor concluded.
